TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Nurturing creativity, promoting authenticity, fostering community and creating space for transformative possibilities is the purpose behind my methodologies. I am passionate about creating innovative and meaningful practices by challenging notions of technique training, performance, and choreography by integrating the essence of one spirit through movement. My visions as a teaching artist, choreographer, performing artist and visual artist are integrating into my teaching practice and allow me to create unique processes that make my work particularity distinctive in aesthetics and intention. My movement practice is grounded in foundations of Modern Dance, integrated with Contemporary aesthetics such as Release Technique, momentum based floorwork, quadruped movement and improvation practices. Methods of conditioning in my class are inspired by my history with Yoga, Pilates, and cardio-based intergraded modalities.

I view the studio as a movement laboratory where the student-teacher relationship is malleable, creating a collaborative learning experience. I work through various modalities including but not limited to: improvisation, modern and contemporary dance techniques, choreography, journal writing, visuals and dialogue through class discussion. These approaches allow the dancer to engage holistically with class material, fostering a dynamic learning experience allowing students to make meaningful connections in and outside of the studio. I aspire to be part of the development of a new generation of holistically aware performing artists with the potential to revolutionize methods and notions of training and performance and its impact in personal and social contexts.
